The Women

In 2002, I started to interview a diverse group of women and girls about their “sense” of beauty. My goal at the time was to collect a range of perspectives. These videos, often crude, were shot in a “talking head” format. I came prepared with questions, but ultimately a strict interview process was jettisoned in favor of a more rambling dialogue. What I sought were video and audio fragments that could be cut out and recombined in an interactive visual collage.

The women interviewed range in age from 9 to 63 years old and come from a wide variety of socio-economic backgrounds. All live in New York with two exceptions.They are:
