Well actually that goes back to the ancient Greeks. The Olympians were the embodiment of human perfection starting from their physical beauty, youthfulness and vitality. We are genetically predisposed to be vain.

My take is that it has its roots in ancient times, the worship of the primordial mother. The breasts are a potent symbol of the mother earth, the giver and the nurturer. Our modern man has become increasingly separated from nature, therefore the worship of breasts, since it offers immediate satisfaction without the ancient rituals, becomes ever more urgent.

Wow, never thought of it this way. Makes sense when you put it in a historical context. Thanks.

Breasts are lovely accessory items. They are nice whether big or little, jiggling or not. The reason they are so nice is because they are soft, look vulnerable and remind us a bit that we are mammals; that is animals. This is a sexy thought. Breasts feed babies some of the time and mainly attract men. I don't know why they are such attractions but they probably suggest comfort, softness and the traditional aspects of femininity. Aesthetically breasts look nice and seem like more fun than throw pillows.

Whereas I cannot speak on behalf of society in general, rather can speak of my perspective given to me by living in the societal social structure. As a child, my friend suggested that we collect pictures of ladies. I did that and got into trouble with my mom for my collection of underwear and bra advertisements as a five year old boy. Societal taboos regarding young males from touching female breasts are enforced, OK. But, us boys still want to do that. Girls cover breasts up with bras, and cloths, but boys still linger as to when can we understand more. Hence a building project of men starts, wanting to do something that we can't do, touch them. For obviously good privacy reasons, sure us good boys follow the rules, but some women seem to flaunt their breasts. Perky firm adornments of femininity are off limits, and rightly so, I understand. But there is still a subconscious, unconscious, taboo to be attracted to something that I cannot get. As a boy seeks out the best girl, he is influenced by society as to what the best girl really is like. Well, she doest look like a man. She has curves, nice hair, lips, eyes, legs, personality, ect. Many years ago the great female form was rubenesque, later the "Twiggy" look was popular. Years ago while in Germany I understood that German girls didn't shave their legs because they didn't want to be thought of as being vain, or to prove what great blood ancestry they had by their nice dark leg hairs. Hugh Hefner has made a living by uncovering what some males want to see, as shocking as it was back in 1953. His empire has been crumbling the past twenty years, but breasts still are important as any Miss USA competition will show.
